Some of you know that my wife has been vegan for over a year now. While we have been mostly vegetarian for a decade and more, being vegan has its rewards, as I’ve noticed with her. Mea culpa, I’m not completely vegan but still continue to practice mindful eating and listening to my body.
My impressions so far are very positive. Once you get over the craving foods you once ate, it becomes very simple. How do you get over the craving? It’s a tricky mix of understanding what you aspire to and letting it become a playful thing, not a guilt ridden duty. In her case, she felt there were no reasons why we should eat animal products when the quality is so low and their treatment deplorable. In other words, knowing how animals are treated these days, why would we want to put that low kind of quality food in us? Meat today doesn’t taste like meat from decades ago. I can vouch for that.
We put the best gas possible in our cars and drive around a fast food place to eat. How bizarre is it we treat our cars better than our bodies, which we use to work and enjoy riding ours cars in the first place.
In the end, practicing that care for ourselves and by the same way our bodies, help us live better lives all around. The better the quality, the clearer the thinking.
So I will leave you with this funny picture that says it all about the questionable quality of food we are being sold.
