TV, The Antithesis Of Coaching, Long Beach

I have called my company Tap The Source for a reason. Watching TV and giving my thumb a serious work out dodging lame channels and bad commercials, I realized TV is the complete antithesis of Coaching.

I decided to actually watch a few commercials and see what they were like. Not having had a TV set at home for the last 4 years pretty much makes me completely out of touch with what is going on in the brave new world of reality shows (seriously, is that reality?), commercial adds and other cram-down-your-throats-behaviors.

The first thing that pretty much shocked me were the multitude of pseudo-medicine advertisings. So basically guys are bombarded into thinking sexual problems with erectile dysfunction are the norm, both sexes can use this other drug to cover bad skin diseases and women are still bombarded with must-look-good-fashion trends. But nowhere does it ask the all important Coaching question: “What do YOU want?” In other words, what do you want for yourself?

I use the word shocking in a measured way, they are shocking commercials when you hear the side-effects cause serious problems, debilitating conditions and even death! What gives here? You are advertising products that have caused death? Have we gone absolutely bananas? And of course, everything resolves around two things, vanity and never touches the root problems. One is the obvious tools of delivery is Sex which sells everything from masking gray hair to sexual dysfunctions.

Vanity is forced down people’s throats. If you don’t look good you won’t be happy. If women don’t have long silky hair, how can they be fulfilled and happy? And if men over the age of 50 cannot keep an erection, while saying it is a common thing, how can they be man? All of this is not only seedy but keeps on reinforcing that a) you don’t know what is good for you, we will tell you. Remember those multi-trillion dollar companies telling what you buy. B) that you need to look good in order to be fulfilled, still from those multi-billion dollar company that ultimately make you not feel good to buy their products to feel a little better. Is this the definition of insanity? No, it’s greed and profit :) But do people feel any better? For a little while, you can look better but what drives the rising search people have for fulfillment and looking for that something more in life? More and more, people are looking for that something through yoga, therapy, Coaching, etc.

Ultimately, we can put all the makeup but until we reach the root and core causes, nothing will truly make us fulfilled. Self awareness and a deep sense of who you are is true freedom. I called my company Tap The Source because I have always believed if you do not get to the source of anything, you are just doing damage control. Damage control will never fully resolve anything. Aware and understanding yourself makes you a better person in control of your life. That is freedom. Contact me if you need to talk about this.
