Online Privacy, Is There Such A Thing?

These days, it seems you cannot escape the online privacy articles that pop up on a daily basis.  Facebook this, Google that, to name a few.  So I decided to poke around my settings.  And what did I find?

Horror of all horror!  Google Documents had listed in my documents, although not shared all the documents that were sent to me as attachment as far back as 2006.  That is, all documents sent to me even before Google Documents existed.  Facebook is notorious for poor privacy settings, loose agreements and never being upfront about what actually is open to its third party allies.  Facebook applications open up doors into your data on your computer that can be used by whomever Facebook chooses.  Sorry, but considering how corporations treat their users these days, that is a no-no in my book.

So I decided to remove everything.  I have removed all the documents in Google Documents that should be there in the first place.  I am removing all posts and comments on my Facebook profile that is not relevant to coaching.  That is gargantuan task.  It is amazing to see how much you can write and in the end, how much of it is really relevant or even remotely interesting?

This makes me wonder, as I am sure many of you also do.  Why are these company treating people’s private intellectual properties like that when they sue anyone who infringes on their private intellectual properties?  If convenience is the reason, then it is not worth it to me.  Another question that begs to be asked is why are these things done without letting users know clearly they have your information, documents and more on their servers?  Even if they are not set to be shared, the very least would be to treat me as a mature and responsible human being by asking me first.  And this is finally the crux, in the name of convenience, we have accepted much too many things that in the end make our social network… not convenient.

In the end, those who understand the nature of computers and certainly that of the Internet do know one thing without doubt, there is no such thing as privacy on the Internet.  The Internet was created to share information, not withhold it.

Things that make you go: “Hummmm…”

HLifeMedia Rocks!

We went to Worldfest in Los Angeles where we were surrounded with veggans, meatless food and great talks.  Not only was the weather great but the people we met were simply fantastic.

Our thumbs up goes to HLifeMedia.com where sisters Silvie and Maryl write about health but also talk about the other crucial aspect, spirituality and mind.  And the best part is that they have read the Kybalion!

Check them out, great article, a great look and just wonderful people.  Kudos.

Coaching In Second Life

Had my first impromptu coaching session in Second Life.

For those of you who do not know what Second Life is, check it out here.  In a nutshell, it is a place where people gather online and build a visual avatar that moves through a visual landscape.  Many groups exist and even some businesses hold meetings and trainings there.  I am part of a group called Mystic Academy.

A person asked me what coaching was, so we took the opportunity to have on the fly and via IM a coaching session.  As much as communicating through IM was challenging at first, the session interesting, as they always are.  The person was going through similar processes I am currently going through.

That is another amazing aspect of coaching, clients reflect what you are going through or still dealing with.  It’s a symbiotic relationship where the coaches does not impose their hidden agenda.  Well, at least the real coaches don’t.

Ego, Nothing Good For An Already perfect Society

A great quote from David R. Hawkins:

“With humility comes the willingness to stop trying to control or change other people or life situations or events ostensibly ‘for their own good’. To be a committed spiritual seeker, it is necessary to relinquish the desire to be ‘right’ or of imaginary value to society. In fact, nobody’s ego or belief systems are of any value to society at all. The world is neither good nor bad nor defective, nor is it in need of help or modification because its appearance is only a projection of one’s own mind. No such world exists.”

And is this the truth, more than ever?

Asking the right questions when you start your business

You will not just hear from me, the number one mistake that stops a business form striving is to not have a clear vision of what that business does.  In other words, the desire alone will simply not be enough, no matter how good the idea is.  So where do you start?  Try these simple questions at first:

What do I want to achieve?  Why does my business exist?  What will success look like?

These are powerful coaching questions that should not only help clarify your business vision, should also open the door for more questions which will further refine your business vision.

The other important part sorely lacking for so many business is to not have a contingency plan.  What happens if things don’t work out?  What other service/products can I offer? Am I listening to my clients?  Am I listening to what is needed out there?  Finally, am I flexible enough to ride the tides of change?

Talk to a business coach, drop me a line.

What Coaching Brings Me

Boy that was a tough question from my coach.  What does coaching bring me?

As a typical right brain thinker, rationalizations do not come easy to me.  So I wrapped my head around that and came up with the following.

All in all, I get much out of coaching in very difference areas of my life.  I completely enjoy being there for others and being selfless.  Being selfless is a great exercise.  Also, I get a sense of being a participating part of society and working for the greater good.  Lastly, being a professionally trained coach with an international accreditation, it gives me a sense of professionalism.  So far, that’s what I got in one week of trying to answer this arduous question.

The Importance Of Having a Coach

Coaches are probably the number one source of people telling you how important it is to have a coach but did you know that most coaches have a coach?

And that is the gist.  If coaching is so great and a coach has no real “expertise” in your life, than a coach should have a coach in order to maintain that balance.  All serious coaches need a coach.  A coach is a neutral, third party person you can bounce ideas off with and help you raise awareness around any particular parts of your life.

I’ve had the pleasure of working with coaches outside the United States lately and it has been a very refreshing adventure.

Visual Thinkers Have A Hard Time In This Society

Filed under: Coaching — Tags: — admin @ 6:00 am

If it is not obvious by now, I am a high-end visual thinker and rationalizing thoughts is not an innate quality of mine.  None the less, I try sometimes, not so successfully.  So when my coach asked me what did coaching bring to me, I was at a loss to explain.

Sure, it brings me much.  I can feel it, sense it and derive more pleasure out of coaching than I have ever had with any of my previous endeavors.  Coaching synthesizes everything I have done before into one profession.  But this profession is still young and hard to rationalize into easy, concise sentences, much less for me rationalize what I get out of it.

So the next few weeks, I will work on rationalizing what comes naturally and intuitively to me, and looking forward to share this in my practice.
