Finding Your Little Piece Of Heaven Where You Already Are

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 6:58 am

A boat docked in a tiny Mexican fishing village. A tourist complimented the local fishermen on the quality of their fish and asked how long it took him to catch them. “Not very long.” they answered in unison.

“Why didn’t you stay out longer and catch more?” The fishermen explained that their small catches were sufficient to meet their needs and those of their families.

“But what do you do with the rest of your time?” “We sleep late, fish a little, play with our children and take siestas with our wives. In the evenings, we go into the village to see our friends, have a few drinks, play the guitar, and sing a few songs. We have a full life.”

The tourist interrupted, “I have an MBA from Harvard and I can help you! You should start by fishing longer every day. You can then sell the extra fish you catch. With the extra revenue, you can buy a bigger boat.”

“And after that?”

“With the extra money the larger boat will bring, you can buy a second one and a third one and so on until you have an entire fleet of trawlers. Instead of selling your fish to a middle man, you can then negotiate directly with the processing plants and maybe even open your own plant. You can then leave this little village and move to Mexico City, Los Angeles, or even New York City!  From there you can direct your huge new enterprise.”

“How long would that take?”

“Twenty, perhaps twenty-five years” replied the tourist.

“And after that?”

“Afterwards? Well my friend, that’s when it gets really interesting,” answered the tourist, laughing. “When your business gets really big, you can start buying and selling stocks and make millions!”

“Millions? Really? And after that?” asked the fishermen.

“After that you’ll be able to retire, live in a tiny village near the coast, sleep late, play with your children, catch a few fish, take a siesta with your wife and spend your evenings drinking and
enjoying your friends.”

And the moral of this story is:

Know where you’re going in life. You may already be there

Setting A Healthy Relationship With Facebook

As you can guess, having been slandered on Facebook has made me think a lot about the experience on this website.

For the positive aspects Facebook has, catching up with old friends, rekindling lost friendships and keeping in touch with people who are far away, pretty much anyone can start writing anything without you knowing.  I recently witnessed two friends, one a democrat, the other a republican, duking it out under my wall.  As fiercely independent as I am, I feel this has no place on my territory.

The last experience is rather disturbing.  Someone has been slandering me and the only reason I became aware of it was when another person decided to send me a private email about it.  In other words, all of this is happening without me knowing.

This is one of the dark, negative aspects of Facebook.  Anonymity is easy to hide behind when someone decides to take a stab at you.

From now on, I will treat the website in the following way.  Go to it once a week, check out only the friends who are too far away call and see physically.  Since I want my profile to be seen and open, I have nothing to hide, I won’t limit access, but others might want to think about that in order to avoid what I am experiencing.

Finally, it worries me what the new generations are experiencing with these types of “social networks”.  Sitting behind a chair, clicking, befriending people without seeing them in real-life just isn’t very real… or maybe it is an alternate reality.  Having said this, are they developing social skills?  It is arguable that while they are becoming proficient typists and clickers, their face-to-face social skills are not improving, nor are their speech patterns evolving.

Maybe this is a sign of a new generation or maybe I’m just lucky enough to know two generations, one that speaks and another that writes…

As to the person who wrote this?  It was easy to discover.  I have turned over the case to the police and a lawyer.  The rest?  I wish her light, plenty of Light…

What To Do When People Slander You

There is nothing more frustrating than someone hiding in the ether the Internet is and slanders you.

Yesterday, I received a Facebook email I thought was a bad joke at first.  This person I have never met accuses me of doing things that just cannot happen.  While that particular account could have been hacked, it is nonetheless a disturbing event.  So the reactions are as follows: make a huge stink, alert everyone and go into defense mode, or think things through and calm down?

If the latter does not come naturally for me, it is what I did.  I decided to talk a few deep breaths, then lit a few candles and burned incense.  I started to meditate and asked questions.  While the answers weren’t revelations, they were soothing and felt calm deep within the peace inside.  I decided to tackle the problem logically.  I documented everything, filed an abuse report, looked the person online and in Facebook and finally sent emails to her friends to clarify who she is.

It isn’t easy dealing with such a negative thing, especially when you know it isn’t true but sometimes we are called to deal with absurd situations.  We must take adversity in stride, knowing we are right and either someone is having sick fun, or just is deranged.  One step at a time…

In the meantime, my feelings toward Facebook don’t change.  It isn’t a great tool.  You end up wasting more time than it is worth.  If Facebook is great are rekindling old friendships, that is all I can say about it.  It makes us lazy, accept friendships at the push of a button instead of going out there and meeting people in real life…

Sports Prototype

Bet you never thought you would find this here.  I love racing and yes, it isn’t very green but some prototypes are going green with either bio-fuels, as in the V10 Aston Martin bio-ethanol and a few others are dabbling with hybrids with one fully electric prototype.  You can read our Electricnick.com blog or catch me at the Examiner.

The Long Beach Grand Prix is different from most others in that is has many races but doesn’t attract the typical “GP” crowd.  The Sports prototype didn’t fail to entertain with Aston Martin leading a pack of V10s with a V12 on such a tough narrow road track as Long Beach.  The last driver made a mistake in the last few laps and the Patron Zytech V10 took advantage of that.  The other V10 Aston Martin running on bio-ethanol was doing great despite obvious weight disadvantaged.

All in all, an epic race well worth the race and well worth beyond the single seater craze… :)

Coaching Tickles Me

Coaching tickles me.  It might sound strange but coaching is such a challenge, it delights me to walk that fine line when I am with a client not to tell them what to do but to strive for understanding and revealing what they want to do.

How do you achieve this?  That is the trick to masterful coaching, you must arrive at a greater understanding and awareness as to the “who” of the person you are coaching.  And there also lies an interesting part, when tend to think of coaching as sports coach in high school, pushing students to physically excel through drills and exercises.

Coaching has two distinctive phases.  The first one is getting to the core of who you are.  I aptly named my coaching practice Tap The Source, because without doing so, you are aiming in the dark.  Once there is a greater awareness around the “who” you are, finding out what you want to do, where you would like to be and in general, answering any personal questions becomes so easy.

In many ways, coaching is the reflection of the paradigm shift our societies are facing.  We are at the end of a system that focused on survival with brute force.  People were offered little choice, work to survive.  Now there is much wealth built and people can actually start to choose.  The problem is without knowing oneself, what does one chooses for one self?

This is where coaching becomes an invaluable tool.  Masterful coaching is about having a coach with no agenda, holding back the urge to tell the client what to do and striving for uncovering who the client and how the client wants to go about it.  After all, who knows you better than yourself.  What a fantastic time it is to live now days.

Second Life, Incursion Into A Virtual Life

For the past few years, I have been on and off visiting Second Life.  For those of you who don’t know what it is, Second Life is a virtual reality world where you can create your own character (avatar) and meet people.

Second Life is an interesting place filled with groups that reflect real life, RL interest.  I found groups raging from my favorite Mystic Academy to a Rosicrucian hangout and more. You can find… virtually anything.

There are some fascinating aspects to Second Life.  Depending on who you are, you will represent yourself in different ways.  I find that most people like to show an improved or alter ego of who they are in real life.  Many come across as overly sexy avatars to outright colorful ones, adorned in almost super heroesque costumes.  I decided to represent myself as… myself, as close as I could.

The other interesting tidbit about Second Life is that it is a place for virtual meetings.  Some companies have already understood this and are using it to their advantage.

Finally, Second Life can be a great place to look for like-minded people and as usual, you will find whatever you attract.  If you need a tour, come to Mystic Academy and if you see Nickster Shinji, say hi and he will give you a tour.  :)
