I was asked a good question yesterday.
A new client is coming my way and I know her old coach. Someone asked how that works, if I would exchange notes with the former coach.
For one thing, EVERYTHING is 100% confidential in a coaching relationship. So I cannot get any information with the consent of the client.
The other thing is why? Coaching is a forward moving technique and what happened in the past is relevant, not essential, and certainly something we don't dwell on. The real question coaches ask is what do you want to do. On top of that, we don't keep notes, or at least anything detailed if anything at all. The problem with note taking is that you lose presence and can miss out of important things said.
It was an interesting question.
