Blogging, Not Just For Narcissists

Discuss on ooVoo

Lately, I have been meeting people who are either thinking about starting a blog or who are just starting.

Having had mine for 2 and 1/2  years, I've learned a few things.  First of all, have fun with it.  Don't expect people to flock to it, write about what moves you and above all, have fun with it.  Did I mention to have fun with it?

Blogging is much more than an advertising tool.  It is a way to dispense free information.  It is a way for people and potential clients to come and see who you are, get acquainted and feel comfortable with you. Even though it might feel a little narcissistic to write about yourself, it is all about self-expression.  And what a learning tool.

Find what you like to talk about.  Find what moves you and what you strongly believe in.  Commit to writing EVERY day.  Can't make that last point important enough!  The best way to learn to become a writer is to write, every day, whether or not you want to.

It takes some humility to write every day and have people read you.  You'll make mistakes, typos, say the wrong things and the right ones and over the months and years, you will notice your style has evolved.  You might even cherish the thought of writing a book one day.  Looking back on your daily posting, you will find you already have a lot of material.

Mostly blogging for me is a safe, free way for people to get to know me.  I write about the things that move me, the things I believe in, the things I do.  I will have at some point to seriously think about my targeted audience and start delivering more accurate and targeted coaching information.  I am thinking about it.  In the meantime, I am happy to say I still love writing, love to blog and the discipline of posting 1 to 2 posts a day has brought to the surface some great strengths.
