Belmont Shore Rugby Team Raocks!

You probably heard it here first 28 to 13! The Belmont Shore team ruled the entire game. They slowed down their assault after halftime where we witnessed the other team trying to take advantage of it but they couldn’t catch up anymore.

It was an interesting game. For one thing, it was the fist time I ever watched an American team play another one. I found this particular game lively. Maybe it was because much was at stake. With this win, our local team has a lead over the team who defeated them last.

Our team seemed bigger and indeed had bigger players. 300lbs of fast and quick body coming down at you is something of a sight. The other team, OMBAC had some national players in it. It was a great game. I noticed OMBAC became frustrated halfway through and you could see some of them forgetting the rugby spirit. Normally in a European team, the players would have been forced to calm down at the next scrum and eventually forced to retire… Even though there was a lot of enthusiastic players, Belmont was clearly the winner. They were stronger, quicker, made a few passes that were brilliant and were simply the better team.

I am looking forward to the next games. And, Virginia liked it a lot. Hope to see more people there. It’s the best bang for your buck… free and a real man’s game. :)

A Little Endulgence Or Celebration?

This morning I woke up feeling rested, warm, sleepy and just feeling cozy and great.

I love mornings like these. You chase away any thoughts of what you should be doing. You purposely set out to have a good day and enjoy yourself. And why not? You made so far, intact, in one piece. You’ve come a long way.

We need to celebrate the fact that we are here, right now. We need to acknowledge more often that we are inquisitive enough to continue searching for that something. If you are not convinced how good you are doing, look around and see how some people are satisfied where they are. It won’t do for me. I want to know, I want to understand. What is it that drives me, what is it that motivates me to get up and continue that every day search… into me?

So I celebrated by having pizza in the morning! And glory of all glory, I sat on my front porch with a glimpse of the sea, sun drenched playing Sudoku, eating my pizza and enjoying my morning ritual of green tea. Right there and then, everything was perfect. Yes I had things to do but I didn’t let it distract me from enjoying this beautiful California day.

After that, instead of setting out to work, I pruned some plants, washed the fountain filter and lightly watered some plants. Just then again, everything was perfect.

It’s good to enjoy what is around you and being aware of it.

Now it’s off to Rugby heaven. Ah, days like these!

Professional Satisfaction

This morning I went outside to see what the commotion was about. I heard a gas powered chainsaw.

I saw, to most of our (the neighbor’s) horror that some “landscapers” were pruning the tall palm tree right over the delicate flowers and pots below. Heavy palm leaves were falling left and right, smashing anything in their way.

I looked at the guys in disbelief. They said they had put away some things and had covered (with falling branches) the rest. It was sad. Rose bushes broken, plants completely wiped, etc. What was even sadder was the complete lack of professional satisfactions these folks were getting out of their jobs. They were there to cut a tree branches and that was it.

It was sad to see the amount of time and energy we had put into the garden and see these people come in and trash it in an hour. What is equally sad is how companies all over the US are shooting themselves in the foot with greed. Everyone wants to save a buck, so pretty anyone is hired. Most of the workers around here have no serious training. They just do the job. In the end, most consumers like me wonder about how much money we save with people like that. Would I ever call these folks to work in my garden? Certainly not. Would I ever recommend them? Absolutely not.

In the end, it reminded me about the whole problem in the coaching are. The title “coach” does not make a coach! The same is true about most “landscape” local companies I see around here. The name does not make the professional. Reputation and training certainly does make a difference. A little professional care goes a long way in the end.
