Important Rugby Game Tomorrow

Filed under: Rugby — admin @ 11:12 am

Tomorrow is an important day for our local nation champions as they take on OMBAC. If they win, they get a ride to the top, if they don’t, well… let’s not think about it.

There will be a BBQ, fund raiser and as always that unique Rugby game feeling.

The game will be the pyramid at Cal State. Come and cheer our local champions.

Solar Energy In Long Beach With Gerrie Schipske

Filed under: Long Beach Events — admin @ 4:23 am

Please join Gerrie Schipske tomorrow for The Solar Energy Task Force. She will be hosting a day-long conference on solar energy that will include a bus guided solar tour.

The Solar Energy Conference is an all-day event where you can explore the ever-changing landscape of solar legislation, trends, technologies and economics with local industry and government experts and find out why solar energy is important to the future of Long Beach. This event is FREE.

The Solar Energy Conference will include a panel discussion, workshops, and solar displays.

Workshops will cover a range of topics, including how to make homes and businesses energy efficient, how solar energy systems work, and how much money a solar energy system can save you.

Registration begins at 9:00 am and the Conference begins at 9:30 am with welcoming remarks and a brief panel discussion. Mayor Bob Foster will be joining us to welcome folks to the Conference at the morning session.
To give residents a first-hand look at what solar energy can do, there will be a tour of solar powered homes and facilities in the 5th Council District. The tour will visit solar-friendly homes and businesses to see solar panels, solar water heaters, electric vehicles and other energy saving features. Space is limited on the bus tour, so people are encouraged to call the 5th Council District Office to reserve a space. Maps will be available for those that wish to take the tour via bicycle.

For more information, please contact the Office of Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske at 562-570-6932 or e-mail at: district5@longbeach.gov.

Location: El Dorado Senior Center, 2800 Studebaker Rd., Long Beach, CA 90815 between 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM.

Some Real Estate Companies Just Don’t Get It!

Filed under: Real Estate Local — admin @ 3:00 am

I had one of my regular one a month call to “join our exciting growing team” at a local big house Realtor company.

They were sad in the beginning but now they are just plain old insulting. I had this bubbly enthusiastic voice who was telling me I wouldn’t have to pay desk fees for 6 months. And she was really happy about that fact. Unfortunately, I never paid for desk fees at Robert Weil Associates. Then she said I would earn 100% of my commissions. Unfortunately when nothing sells, 100% of very little is still pretty much nothing.

All of that is just marketing, and we understand that about these struggling high profile real estate companies but what ticked me off came after. I politely declined saying I would wait to see how the market goes in a year. And some people just don’t get it. I guess you are either a smart sales person or you shouldn’t do it. This person told me things were picking up! I was flabbergasted. Any news will tell you otherwise and certainly all the experts who have been correct over the last decades agree, the real estate market is going into a bottomless pit.

It made me mad to think this person would pull the same hype on someone else. Too bad I was in a hurry or I would have asked her to explain “things are picking up’. Then I would have asked her to give me numbers, and of closed escrows versus how many agents they have. Then I would have given even the simplest Schiller numbers as a final nail in this ridiculous hyping coffin.

I’m just flabbergasted that big national companies are still relying on old tricks like this to get people all hyped up. What is the long term plan here? They will end up with more disillusioned people who will not represent the profession in a very good light. And, who are they attracting anyway? Certainly not real, real estate professionals. These big corporations cater to make-it-big-quickly type of minds that will not add much quality to the profession. It really is sad that even in the midst of this mess, some of these high-profile real estate companies still try to hype a market that is just following its course to normalcy.

More than ever I want to coach Realtors. I never felt a need for them to align themselves more than the present situation.
