Ah, gotta love that question!
This is a question every coach struggles with at one point or another being asked: “Hey, what would you do?” If you have explained the difference between a coach and a consultant well to a client, that question shouldn’t happen, right? Not necessarily.
We are human. We want answers and sometimes it is tempting to ask someone else even if it comes from outside. It’s tempting to go outside of yourself for an answer to a question you have inside. Coaching, however is really all about you. You are the ultimate expert in your business life. If someone gives you answers, a) it is theirs, not yours, b) you’ve relinquished your own power, and c) who is the expert in your field? You are of course. No one but you can get that answer.
That’s why a good coach will safely get you to that place where you can assess your knowledge and review it neutrally in order to arrive at the best possible answer at that moment. Wordy, ain’t it?
As a coach, I am more interested in the “who” you are then the “what” you do or even “how” you do it. Once we’ve tapped into the who, the how becomes easier to influence in order to bring out the best of your values and the what is really yours.
Love that question and my answer is, why would you want an outside point of view? You are the expert here, not me. I’m only an expert at bringing you to this place where you can chose. And it reminds how so truly those ancient philosophies had nailed eons ago, all is within, not without.
