City Looks Into Salary Increases

The Budget Oversight Committee will look to limit the salary increases it allows.

It looks like the city of Long Beach is serious about this issue that has aroused a lot of concern. The Budget Oversight Committee is expected to review tomorrow (January 29) an amendment to the salary ordinance, which will require the city manager to notify the city council of salary increases greater than “cost of living,” or the Consumer Price Index. Under the current ordinance, the city manager can raise annual salaries by up to seven percent. The meeting will begin at 4 p.m. at Long Beach City Council Chambers, 333 W. Ocean Blvd.

Conforming Loan Raised

“The package agreed upon by Congress would temporarily allow Fannie and Freddie to buy or guarantee mortgages as high as $729,750 in cities with high housing prices, according to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.” according to the Wall Street Journal.

This could change the playing field a little for first time buyers, if the rates remain affordable. The $729,750 limit would expire Dec. 31, but permanent for loans guaranteed by the Federal Housing Administration. The current FHA is limited to $367,000.

One easy prediction about this year is that it will be an interesting one.

Workshop Synergy

I went to Donna Schiller‘s workshop on Saturday and it was fun.

I think we forget sometimes how much you can get out from a workshop. One obvious element is learning about something. I think my next one will be about those things that drain us constantly and what we tolerate but I digress.

Workshops have another value, it builds up a synergy that I think can be a great motivation for businesses. When you go to workshops, you meet others and get a glimpse into their lives. It makes you realize you are not alone after all, and certainly others have concerns you might share. What you can get out of it are different points of views. How do others react in front of similar obstacles? What have they found out? I think the most precious jewel is the feedback. And this particularly links back to why coaching is such an important part of life, getting feedback.

One reason why we have coaches is to have someone to lay out our thoughts with. That alone opens up great possibilities. Being in a group, others can give you feedback and might see something that is eluding you.

I love workshops and I wil make it a priority to have one every two months to start with.
