To Procrastinate Or Not To Procrastinate? Long Beach

Yes, we all know the theoretical answer on whether or not to procrastinate, yet we don’t always make the right choice. Why?

Procrastination is a thorn in our sides. It’s so easy to slouch back and say: ” I deserve a break today.” Or: “I’ll do it tomorrow.” It’s easy to think like that and somehow our minds are brilliant and most logical at finding excuses. How many times do you catch yourself thinking this project is not that important, it can be done later or tomorrow? It happens, and once it happens it becomes even easier to delay it further.

I am guilty of that this month. I have two workshops coming up at Heavenly Scent on Broadway and The Apothecary on Second Street. I started it the fliers a month ago. The deadline was two weeks and the goal was to aim for the December Christmas shopping. This way I would have maximum exposure. One step leads to another and I was never fully satisfied with my fliers, until I was two weeks into December and clearly missing out on shoppers. The fliers will go in today and I have missed that opportunity.

Was there procrastination on my part? Yes. At times, I lost how important it was to me to reach out to the community. I am an “artist” at heart and a perfectionist. I didn’t want it out there if it wasn’t perfect. Unfortunately, I missed my deadline and I didn’t think it would be such a big deal. And we always know, things are never perfect because everything changes and you learn new things every day. I lost the scope of things. I forgot how important it was to have it out beginning of December.

I learned a few things about this ordeal. First, I haven’t worked completely alone from home in a while. I have to re-adapt to it again. I had the Robert Weil Associates office to come to twice or three times a week. It was a schedule of sorts. Second, I need to stick to a schedule. I am working on that also. Lastly, I am grateful I experienced this because it made me realize the problem with procrastination and how to deal with it.

If you want to work on it with me, I would be happy.

Dataquick shows us Southern California’s real estate activities are the slowest in 20 years over on Calculated Risk.

“… Sales were the slowest for a November in at least 20 years and the median sale price posted a record 10.3 percent year-over-year decline …”

“That was up 2 percent from 12,913 sales in October, and down 42.7 percent from 23,005 in November last year, according to DataQuick Information Systems.”

Indeed, old news new month.
