Crossing Streets In Front Of Traffic In Long Beach

Discuss on ooVoo

This morning a lady ended her life at 6:30 near our place by crossing Ocean Blvd and ending up hit by a police car.  It was gruesome. From 6:30 until 11 AM, the city helicopter was circling our roof accompanied by ambulances.

When we came out there was a police car with a cracked windshield and a slightly dented bumper guard.  Further away there was a body bag, full and the person’s purse.  Speculations abound, the Press Telegram cites a lady crossing over Ocean and getting hit by a police car.  Another source, someone who works for the Police, told us the lady left a local hospital this morning after being treated for mental illness, mumbling she will finally end her life.

What a way to end your life.  This happens right after writing about how people drive so aggressively without having the proper training to maintain their vehicle, police officers rarely using blinkers, sometimes not stopping at stops, etc.  I feel horrible for the police officer who was pulled in to this lady’s drama.  How can you live a normal life after that?  And at the same time, their is so much demand put on the police, to respect the law and enforce it.  It is dramatic.

I guess it’s just plain old strange to see something like that.  Bizarre and not real.

DoJ OKs AT&T-Bell South Merger, FCC Waits As Consumer Voice Oppositions, Long Beach

In an incredible turn, the US Department of Justice approved AT&T’s proposal to acquire Bell South.  It found the enlarged group is "not likely to reduce competition substantially [or] harm consumer welfare" and attached no conditions to the deal.  I just wonder one thing.  What planet are they on?  Where do they evolve?  Certainly not here.  This merger just goes against what America did a few decades ago, break a huge monopoly that had a stranglehold on the public, Bell!

Now we are waiting on the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to make up its mind as it pushes its ruling again.  Will they cave to big corporations as the DoJ did?

The DoJ’s noted that new technologies and competitors, and also that BellSouth does very little business outside its heartland in the southeastern United States.  But no word on how it would react once it became the biggest carrier.

It is frightening to see how these bodies can approve merger like these that were dismantled years ago after behaving in awful ways.  And all this funded by our tax moneys.
