October 8, 1-5 p.m.
FREE

Experience rarely seen pictures by members of the Bixby family, and view depictions of Rancho Los Cerritos through the eyes of photographers and artists at this two-day exhibition celebrating "October is Arts Month."  Among the oil paintings on display will be landscapes and portraits by Sarah Bixby Smith, author of the classic book Adobe Days, and several portraits by her cousin Fanny Bixby Spencer.  The adobe and grounds will also be represented as a subject in works by LB architect Natt Piper and 1872 stereoscopic views by early Los Angeles photographer William Godfrey.  Pictures by Llewellyn Bixby Sr., Paul Dudley Sr., and Edward Weston–a distant Bixby cousin–will also be on exhibit in the sunporch and library.  Exhibit hours coincide with Then & Now on October 7, and with regular tour hours on Sunday, October 8.

U.S. Lawmakers To Question Perils Of ‘Housing Bubble’, Long Beach

Discuss on ooVoo

Lawmakers are getting together to ask some leading government and industry economists about the perils of a housing bubble.  Pfew, I feel better now.  Wait, why now?  Surely, we have seen this coming a long way.

And the answer is: "because we’ve heard a great deal about the possibility of a housing bubble for several years now," said Sen. Wayne Allard, a Republican from Colorado.  I am glad it is acknowledge, albeit a little late but better than never.

The hearing, "The Housing Bubble and its Implications for the Economy," will be held in an open session of the Senate Banking Committee at 10 a.m..  Following this, the same committee will hold a hearing on the growth of innovative mortgage products that have mushroomed along with the housing sector.  Several chief economists will weigh in.

And all this is not being broadcast on C-Span?
